The Baltic countries Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will launch the common gas trading platform from the 1st of July 2017. The natural gas exchange UAB GET Baltic signed a contract with software vendor Enoro on the delivery of a regional trading platform for the Baltic gas markets in March 2017.
The regional gas trading platform for the Baltic gas markets will be launched together with the implicit capacity allocation (ICA) model on the 1st of July, ensuring a closer integration of the national natural gas markets in the Baltic countries. The launch of new market areas shall promote the international trade and the development of a liquid and competitive regional market.
Based on the ICA model the day-ahead transmission capacities at interconnection points between member states and the corresponding volume of gas will be allocated at the same time on the exchange.
The regional natural gas exchange operated by the UAB GET Baltic will use Enoro’s Gas Exchange Trading system, powerful, real-time matching engine, which also comprises contract management functionalities for invoicing and distribution.
“GET Baltic made a thorough investigation around the different options of finding a solution and a partner who could meet our current and future business needs. Enoro’s solution had the required rich functionality and we are looking forward to shaping the gas market together with Enoro,” says Mr. Gintaras Buzkys, the acting CEO of GET Baltic.
When the common gas trading platform will be established, the Baltic gas market players will get an access to all products and will be able to compete directly on the exchange, a development which is expected to decrease gas prices for consumers.
“We are very glad that GET Baltic has chosen Enoro as their preferred vendor for a project shaping the gas market in the Baltic region. It further demonstrates that our chosen strategy to significantly invest into the software supporting the launch and growth of new markets is yielding results,” says Mikko Hytönen, CEO of Enoro Oy.

Enoro’s long-standing customer Seinäjoen Energia has signed a contract for replacing their existing customer information system with Enoro CIS system. Along the purchase, Seinäjoen Energia ensures their compatibility with the upcoming Finnish energy data hub. Seinäjoen Energia has also recently taken into use Enoro Utilytics analytics service to develop their sales operations.
Seinäjoen Energia will utilize the CIS system in customer care and billing to serve both their electricity and district heating customers. The system will be taken into use early 2019. This contract is already the 5th Enoro CIS delivery contract in Finland within the past year.
The standardized Enoro CIS system is the market leader in Norway where the national energy data hub program runs three years ahead of Finland. Thus most of the requirements related to the Finnish national data hub have already been implemented in the system. Through utilizing digitalization and automated business processes, the system also offers cost efficiency that is a requirement for maintaining your hold in the intensifying competition.
Seinäjoen Energia has in 2017 taken into use another solution from Enoro, the big data analytics service Utilytics. Utilytics is a cloud-based service developed purely to meet the needs of energy companies, focusing on improving the competitive edge and daily operations of energy companies. With the near real-time analysis of data provided by smart meters, Utilytics offers a deeper understanding of energy consumers’ consumption behaviour, thus revealing new business opportunities.
”For us, it was important to choose a partner that offers us a comprehensive support now when the energy market is going through a big transformation. We highly appreciate Enoro’s ability to develop and create together with us solutions that continuously pursue to predict the future needs of both energy markets and consumers. We strongly believe that with Enoro CIS we can significantly improve our customer experience, and at the same time expand our product and service offering,” says Martti Ijäs, the network chief at Seinäjoen Energia.
”We’re proud to be able to continue and expand our long-standing customer relationship with Seinäjoen Energia. For us it’s important that we can help our customers to prepare in good time for big market changes,” says Stian Madsen, CEO of Enoro CIS.

Baltics-wide gas trading platform from Enoro generates a 47-fold increase in trading volumes

UAB GET Baltic has taken into the production Enoro's natural gas trading platform with implicit capacity allocation model (ICA) according to the original schedule on the 1st of July. The trading volume of the first two months has grown 47-fold to 188 GWh in comparison with 4 GWh in reference period in 2016. The trading platform strengthens the cooperation of the Baltic countries, promotes the development of a liquid and competitive regional market, and improves the security of energy supply.
The ICA model enables the day-ahead trading of natural gas between Baltic states by taking transmission capacities between the states into account.
“By implementing a unique project jointly with the transmission system operators of the Baltic States and ENORO, GET Baltic significantly contributed to the creation of the single regional natural gas market and the development of the wholesale gas market. The natural gas market of the Baltic States becomes interesting not only for local large energy enterprises but also for international commodity traders. After the commencement of the regional trading platform the trading volumes on the GET Baltic Gas Exchange boosted from 4 GWh in July and August 2016 to 188 GWh in July and August 2017. Therefore, when developing technological solutions, we always take into consideration the needs of market players and offer more effective and more convenient services and new products”, says Mr. Gintaras Buzkys, the acting CEO of GET Baltic.
